A "Mission" and "Rules" Question

The Big Guy from Over There has asked me to convey a question to you all. What if he's so impressed by certain posts and/or comments that he conceives a desire to cite excerpts, short or extended, with all due recognition?

Should this be permitted? If so, does it require permissions by comment or email request?

He is adamant that this is up to you. You're all much better at this writing business than you think you are, but the very last thing he wants -- he stresses this -- is for you to feel him looking over your shoulder or breathing down your necks.

So maybe you should talk about what you want. He'll abide by any rules you set. (Yeah, he will. He's a bastard about a lot of things, but he does have a code.)

Not meaning to interrupt your ongoing discussions... No hurry.

  1. As far as I'm concerned, it's all his to do with as he wants.

Unless he just wants to make me look stupid, in which case I'd just as soon he did that here. Fewer witnesses.

  2. Agreed. I think if you post something on the internet to begin with you have to be okay with just about anybody seeing it. And yes, I'd rather look stupid here than Over There.

  3. Cowardly keep our comments in the Metalkort? No! Even if it spawns a lethal fisking, I think what's said here can go there, in part or full, quoted or linked.

However, not wanting to speak for newcomers or others, writers could simply tag their request for posting priveleges to Insect Brain with a 'do not post' request.

  4. Lately I've been too busy and mentally wiped to organize a thought worth reading - but if I should, at some point, by all means feel free to quote at will. I ask nothing more than attribution.
